This year, APCOA represented herself on the Transformation square as one of the creative partners that turns a vacancy project into a successful operation. On Tuesday June 3rd, Mathijs Smissaert (Commercial Director) was pitching the new product Budget Parking for the location Paviljoensgracht in the Hague to the expert board. This board consisted of seven persons including the Municipality of The Hague, Stena (the owner of the property), FGH Bank, the ROVB (Empire Realty and Development Company) and Nadorp Brokers. The pitch was very well received by the members and there are several appointments planned to elucidate this successful concept.

APCOA PARKING Study shows: Women park quicker than men Youth isn’t the measure for better parking
Stuttgart, 8 April, 2014 – A study conducted by APCOA PARKING, Europe’s leading parking managers, surprisingly concluded that younger drivers are less competent at parking than their elder counterparts.
In Cologne, Frankfurt, Stuttgart and Karlsruhe, students of the Duale Hochschule Baden-Württemberg (DHBW) at Mannheim, surveyed hundreds of car drivers, took note of the time they required to park, and interviewed them.
In the group comprising drivers 18 to 25 years old, it took drivers on average 22 seconds to park their cars. While drivers in the group of 55 to 65 years on average only required 15 seconds to complete the parking manoeuvre. The study also gauged how many steering movements each group required to complete a movement. It found that those aged between 55 to 65 years old required just 1.8 steering movements to complete a manoeuvre, whereas their younger counterparts averaged 1.8 steering movements.
Women park faster than men
In direct comparison with their male counterparts, women proved to be quicker in parking. In fact, the study found that women drivers required just 17 seconds to park, while men took three seconds longer, although female drivers used slightly more steering movements to park (1.62) in comparison to their male counterparts (1.5). Electronic park distance controls turned out to be real “time gluttons”. On average, drivers using the device required 21 seconds to park, while cars without the device were parked in just 15 seconds.

This year the entire budget for Christmas presents of the Stuttgart based European market leader in parking management will go to Medico International. The organisation seated in Frankfurt will apply the donation funds to support aid projects for the victims of the recent typhoon in the Philippines.
APCOA PARKING Group’s CEO Ralf Bender (photo: with Monika Hufnagel / Medico International) handed over a cheque for 15,000 Euro on the 29th of November in Frankfurt. “We are especially impressed by Medico International’s capability to put local aid organisation in a position to help. As a corporate citizen we are absolutely dedicated to sustainable social responsibility”, Ralf Bender substantiated the support.
Medico International will employ the donation funds to back the Philippine healthcare network „Samahang Operasyong Sagip“ (SOS). The network distributes food and relief supplies in the disaster-hit areas. The organization is already also active in the restoration of the basis for life. Over the next years destroyed fishing boats and coconut palms must be replaced
Since more than forty years Medico International fights for social change as an aid and human rights organization. The aim is to not only to alleviate poverty and relieve distress, but to understand and overcome their causes. As a co-founder of the “Campaign to Ban Landmines” Medico International was awarded the Peace Nobel Prize in 1997.
